Only seven participants in the 2018 World Cup do not use players born outside their own country

Morocco, Senegal and Portugal in the World Cup selection most used players born in another country.

The CIES football observatory estimated how many players the national teams who entered the 2018 World Cup, born abroad of their native country, played in the World Cup selection.

A total of 7 national teams out of 32 have managed with the help of footballers who were born in the same country - Brazil, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Colombia, Mexico and South Korea.



As many as 61.5% of the players that were used in the Moroccan national team were born outside the country. More than 30% of such players are from Senegal, Portugal and Switzerland.

Also a large percentage of such players showed Tunisia. Croatia, Nigeria and France.

28.7% of football players of African national teams were born outside their country - CAF leader in this indicator. Then goes UEFA with 9.1%, while in CONEMEBOL this figure is the smallest - 2%.
