The statement by Russian State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova about the ban on the sale of vodka at football matches caused a storm of ridicule and irritation among Russian fans.. The Olympic champion suggested that strong alcohol should not be allowed into the stands, saying that they “will be filled with the bitterness of the defeat of their favorite team,” which will allegedly lead to unrest.

At the same time, Zhurova admitted the possibility of selling beer, recalling the “positive experience” of the 2018 World Cup.

The local Internet audience met these arguments with hostility. In the comments, the Russians staged a real defeat for their compatriot, emphasizing that their deputies manage to portray Russia in such a light that “no Ukrainian troll” could have handled it better.

One user ironically remarked that “no one knows the functionality of Deputy Zhurova, except to comment on the news,” to which others added “to pile on the cringe” and “Nothing”.

Fans expressed confidence that “there are no greater Russophobes than Russian professional patriots”.

Users quipped that “in the VIP boxes, the deputies themselves drink cognac and whiskey, pouring out bitterness and joy,” which means that ordinary fans can only watch how the authorities “live in their own little world.”. Others joked: “Beer without vodka is a waste of money,” “you have to bring vodka already in your stomach, then football will be more fun,” “you can hit harder with beer than with vodka, but who knows?”.

Some commentators drew attention to double standards, recalling that an official recently complained about the “poor life of a deputy” and the inability to buy an apartment in Moscow. One of the users summed it up: “Zhurova is already a meme, like Valuev”.

A few days ago, Zhurova issued an absurd opinion that Western athletes are against allowing Russians to participate in international tournaments because of the political agenda in their countries.
