In the decisive duel for the chess crown, the Chinese met with the representative of Russia, Ian Nepomniachtchi. The final was held in Astana.
After 14 classical games, a draw 7:7 was recorded, and in the tie-break, Liren won with black pieces with a score of 2.5 - 1.5.
Ding Liren became the 17th world chess champion and the first Chinese to win the chess crown match.

Recall that in the summer of last year, the current world chess champion Magnus Carlsen refused to defend his title against the Russian Nepomniachtchi. The Norwegian admitted that he had no motivation to participate in this match. As a result, Nepomniachtchi met with Liren, who was the second number of the Candidates Tournament in Madrid.
