The Ukrainian Fencing Federation applied to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne with a claim to cancel the decision of the Extraordinary Congress of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) on the admission of Russians and Belarusians to international competitions.

This was reported by the press service of the FFU.

" On March 8, 2023, the Fencing Federation of Ukraine received information about the intention of the FIE to put to the vote of the Extraordinary Congress the issue of resuming permission for their participation in competitions.

The Fencing Federation of Ukraine demanded that this issue be removed from the agenda and applied to the FIE Ethics Committee with a disciplinary complaint on the basis of their violation of a number of rules of the Code of Ethics as part of the FIE Statutes.

However, already on March 10, 2023, an extraordinary Congress of the International Fencing Federation took place in an online format, which decided to return to competitions under the auspices of the FIE Russian and Belarusian athletes, as well as officials from these countries.

The convening of the Extraordinary FIE Congress and the voting was carried out with a number of procedural violations of the FIE Statutes.

In this regard, the Fencing Federation of Ukraine applied to the Court of Arbitration for Sport with an application to cancel the decisions taken at the Extraordinary FIE Congress"

Recall, on March 10, the International Fencing Federation (FIE) decided to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete again in tournaments under the auspices of the organization.

It is expected that the lifting of the FIE ban will come into force in April, after which the Russians and Belarusians will be able to travel to the World and European Championships in the summer and participate in the selection for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
