Russians and Belarusians will not be allowed to participate in Wimbledon in response to Russia's attack on Ukraine.

It is reported by The New York Times.

Wimbledon will be the first tennis tournament to limit individual Russian and Belarusian athletes.

The ban was announced by a senior international tennis official on condition of anonymity as he is not authorized to speak for Wimbledon..

This decision will exclude a number of highly ranked players. Four Russian men are in the top 30 on the ATP Tour, one of them (Daniil Medvedev) is the second racket of the world.

Russia also has five women in the top 40 of the WTA Tour rankings..

At the moment, tennis players from both Russia and Belarus can participate in WTA and ATP tournaments, but without the national flag and anthem.
