While playing sports on an empty stomach, a person burns more fat. In addition, such exercises contribute to the acceleration of metabolism. All this has a positive effect on health. To such a conclusion came the staff of the University of Bath. In their study, 60 obese men took part, says Deccan Chronicle.

The first time volunteers walked for 60 minutes on an empty stomach, and in the second - for two hours after consuming a high-calorie breakfast rich in carbohydrates. Scientists took blood from the participants on an empty stomach, after eating and after training. They also collected samples of adipose tissue before and one hour after walking. Experts noticed differences in the expression of genes in adipose tissue.



Thus, expression of PDK4 and HSL genes was increased when people practiced on an empty stomach, and decreased if they were exercising after eating. The increase in the expression level of PDK4 probably indicates that fat is used as a fuel in the exercise, rather than carbohydrates derived from newly taken food. And the level of HSL expression usually increases when the fat tissue uses the energy reserve to maintain a high level of physical activity. Scientists came to the conclusion: exercise on an empty stomach is more useful.
