The 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy ended with an absolute “point zero” for Ukraine – zero medals received and a complete lack of responsibility from officials. Instead of a systematic analysis of the failure, the authorities and sports functionaries are trying to turn defeat into a media triumph, exploiting the image of the victim and hiding behind patriotic slogans.

This was stated by representative of the Diya party Gennady Sikalov, Ukr News writes with reference to the blog. He harshly criticized the National Olympic Committee and drew direct parallels between the collapse of sports and the degradation of the entire system of public administration.

According to the politician, the preparation of Olympians cost taxpayers at least 280 million hryvnia, and in general over a four-year cycle this amount can reach 600 million. At the same time, the leadership of the NOC led by Vadim Gutzeit and the relevant ministry led by Matvey Bedny did not provide a single sports result.

Sikalov notes that instead of medals, the main “performance” of the Games was the helmet of skeleton athlete Vladislav Geraskevich. In his opinion, the fight against Russian influence is necessary, but the athlete chose exactly the form of protest that guaranteed relegation, although there were other options. The authorities immediately used this situation in their own interests.
