A hostel for swifts appeared in Bratislava - this is a special tower with birdhouses, like burrows, where swifts make their nests. The same "birdhouses" installed on the walls of some buildings. Each "hostel" is designed for several dozen swift families.. True, they are happy to settle in other birds, such as starlings and tits..
Building new houses for swifts is only a small part of the project.. According to experts, both swifts and bats hardly take root in a new place, therefore the main task of the project is to preserve the existing nesting sites, and “hostels” are built where swifts or bats settled before..
Insectivorous swifts and bats occupy an important place in the Slovak ecosystem, therefore the restoration of their populations is very important..
