In the United States of America, the State of Illinois declared 2018 the year of the memory of the victims of the Holodomor in Ukraine 1932-1933. This was reported by the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States.

"Governor of Illinois, Bruce Rauner issued a proclamation that proclaims 2018 the year of commemoration of the victims of the Holodomor-Genocide of 1932-1933 in Ukraine, artificially caused by the Soviet authorities," the statement said..

Also, the department noted that the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valery Chaly held a working meeting with representatives of the World Congress of Ukrainians, the main theme of which was the coordination of actions for holding events around the world on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor-Genocide in Ukraine in 1932-33.

Let us note that the Ukrainian Diaspora of the State of Illinois is one of the largest in the USA. The Ukrainian community actively participates in various events related to Ukraine.

Recall that on June 9 in the House of Representatives of the US Congress was submitted a joint resolution, in which the Holodomor 1932-1933 pp. is recognized by the Stalinist regime planned by the genocide of the Ukrainian people.

It should be noted that the Holodomor was recognized as genocide already in 11 American states.

In December 2016, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appealed to the democratic states of the world with an appeal to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine as genocide of the Ukrainian people.

In addition to Ukraine, the Holodomor recognized the genocide of 15 states, including Canada, Poland, Portugal, Georgia, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Another nine countries, as well as PACE and the European Parliament adopted resolutions condemning the Holodomor as a crime of the Soviet totalitarian regime against the Ukrainian people. The US Congress voted in favor of the relevant resolutions in 2003, 2006 and 2008.
