Sverdlovsk Oblast Prosecutor's Office did not let Nikolai Smovzha, known killer, escape punishment for serious crimes. The Office protested the decision of the Verkh-Isetsky District Court, which issued a murderer who served only a quarter of the appointed term, to freedom.
Nikolai Smovzh and his partner Pavel Kozlov were hired assassins. In May 2016, the court found Smyzha guilty of a number of articles, including the murder of two people, illegal possession of weapons, arson, attempted murder, and appointed the defendant 19 years in a strict-security colony. However, less than two years later, on March 23, 2018, the Verkh-Isetsky court granted the convict's request and released him from prison in connection with the illness.
The decision was challenged by the prosecutor's office. Smovzh was sick before committing crimes, which did not stop him from killing people and destroying their property. And when, in May 2016, the court pronounced a sentence, he took into account the killer's diagnosis.
However, in March 2018, the court for some reason decided that Smovzh could not stay in the strict regime colony for 14 years and 10 months, and released the killer to freedom. Although in the colony he received the necessary treatment.
Finally, while freeing Smovzha, the court did not notify the relatives of his victims about the meeting.
The Sverdlovsk regional court quashed the Verkh-Isetsky court's ruling and sent the case for fresh consideration to the same court in the new composition.
