The French Court of Cassation forbade drivers to use a smartphone in a car with the engine turned on, even if it stands at a traffic light, on the roadside or with an "emergency".
Smartphone and engine can be simultaneously switched on only in authorized parking spaces with special markings, in garages and on paths near the house. As an exception, drivers are allowed to call behind the wheel of a stopped car if they have an accident, says EuroPulse.
This decision was made by the court after last year one driver wanted to appeal a fine issued for using the smartphone in a car standing on a circular motion with an emergency.
