This will be a total eclipse of the moon. January 31, 2018, it will be the first total eclipse in almost 152 years.

The next time that you can observe this phenomenon is December 31, 2028, and after that - January 31, 2037. Both these eclipses will be complete. At the same time on December 31, 2009 there was a partial eclipse.

The duration of the total phase of the eclipse will be 77 minutes. This will be a total eclipse, which includes the second full moon of the month, popularly called the Blue Moon.

The eclipse will take place in the middle of the night, and at this time the Pacific Ocean will be turned towards the moon.

Central and East Asia, Indonesia, New Zealand and most of Australia will get an excellent overview of this lunar show in the evening sky.

Moving farther west to West Asia, to the Indian subcontinent, to the Middle East and to Eastern Europe, the eclipse will already continue when the moon rises. Alaska, Hawaii and northwestern Canada will see an eclipse from beginning to end.

Recall, as reported URA-Inform, on Monday, August 21, "a great solar eclipse" observed by residents of 14 US states. For the first time in 99 years the sun was completely covered by the Moon.
