Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree permitting regular passenger flights between Russia and Egypt. The document was published on January 4 on the official portal of legal information.

We are talking about flights to Cairo. According to the decree, this city is no longer subject to the ban on transportation, introduced earlier for Russian airlines. Also the recommendation to domestic tour operators to refrain from sale to citizens of the Russian Federation of the permits providing flights to Cairo.

On December 15, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation and the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation signed a protocol providing for the renewal of flights between countries. The Egyptian department at the same time said that flights to Cairo will start from February 1, 2018.

A few days before the signing of the protocol, Putin, on the basis of his visit to Egypt, said:

"The Russian Security Service reported to me that as a whole we are ready to open a direct air service between Moscow and Cairo". The President of Russia noted that "the Egyptian side has done a lot of work to improve the level of security at airports".

Russia interrupted air communication with Egypt in November 2015. A month before, an attack took place on the A321, which flew from Sharm El Sheikh to St. Petersburg,. As a result of the bomb explosion, all 224 people who were on the plane were killed. Responsibility for the explosion was assumed by the "Islamic State".
