The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the Regulation on the national system of biometric verification and identification of citizens of Ukraine, foreigners and stateless persons, according to the Communications Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Sergey Yarovoi said that the relevant provision was drafted in compliance with the decision of the National Security and Defense Council.

"The project involves the collection of biometric data of individuals and their storage in databases of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine, as well as fixing biometric data of foreigners and stateless persons during border control," he said..

As previously reported, earlier on Wednesday the State Border Service announced the start of testing of the biometric control system at two checkpoints on the border with the Russian Federation: "Hoptovka" (Kharkov region). ) and "Bachevsk" (Sumy region).

At the same time, the department said that the system will fully operate at the border and at international airports, as planned, from January 1, 2018.

Since January 1, 2018, 157 international and interstate border checkpoints for land transport and airports will have a new biometric data recording system for citizens from 71 countries, from which one or other threats may come for Ukrainians and the national security of Ukraine. It allows you to control the duration of their stay in the country, and is also attached to the Interpol databases.
