Belgian State Secretary for Migration Policy and Asylum Issues Theo Franken said on Tuesday that he decided to deprive Imam of the large mosque of Brussels, a citizen of Egypt, for preaching Salafism residence permit in Belgium, Trend reports..

Salafism is a Muslim trend, whose supporters advocate the establishment of an Islamic state government based solely on the Quran and the Sunnah.

"We received very obvious signals that this person is a Salafi, very radical, conservative and dangerous for our society and our national security," Franken said on Bel-RTL radio.

According to the Secretary of State, in Belgium there are problems with "radical Islam and Salafism," but not with Islam as a religion.

The authorities of the country pay great attention to counteracting the ideas of Salafism (a radical version of the interpretation of Islam) in the mosques in Belgium, the preaching of which is considered one of the reasons for the radicalization of youth.

The State Security Service of Belgium has previously drawn the attention of the authorities to the activation of the Salafi movement in the kingdom, whose members reject the existence and functioning of democratic institutions, and the fact that Islamic radicals, advocating a return to so-called "pure" Islam, are increasing their influence on the Muslim population Belgium.
