As it is noted, the carriage of illegal migrants is qualified in accordance with Article 30 of the Code on Immigration and Social Integration of the Hellenic Republic. The maximum penalty for this crime is 25 years imprisonment.

"Given the extremely negative perception by Greek society of the phenomenon of mass illegal migration and its politicization, Greek courts practice the application of maximum sanctions provided for by local criminal law," the foreign ministry said..

Thus, all citizens of Ukraine during the investigation, trial, prosecutorial hearings were provided with free lawyers or hired defenders themselves.

Also at the hearings were provided translation into Ukrainian or Russian languages.

At the same time it became known that the consular official participated in every court session in case of receiving an appropriate application from a detained Ukrainian or members of his family.

The cases of detained and convicted citizens of Ukraine are under control of the Ukrainian Embassy in Greece and the Department of Consular Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As previously reported in "Ura-Inform", US citizens filed a lawsuit to the court with a request to stop the process of abolishing the program of assistance to migrants.
