As the presiding judge of the meeting, Judge Vladislav Devyatko, explained, the refusal of the defense counsel Meshechka to fulfill her duties to defend the accused Yanukovych is being accepted. In this connection, the court instructs the regional center on providing free secondary legal aid without delay to appoint another lawyer to protect Yanukovych, the judge said, adding that the next meeting will be held on September 6 at ten o'clock in the morning.
At the same time, Meshechek himself stated that "criminal proceedings are particularly complex" and therefore he believes that to better and properly protect Yanukovych's interests, he can no longer participate in legal proceedings.
However, the prosecution party objected to the satisfaction of such a petition. According to the prosecutors, there is no reason for self-challenge, since the lawyer previously reported in the meetings that he is ready to consider this case.
Recall, today, Yanukovych's lawyer said in court a petition for self-withdrawal.
As reported URA-Inform, July 5, Yanukovych said that he would not participate in the Ukrainian trial of treason and withdrew his lawyers from the court.
