The country asks the EU member states to help it to combat forest fires, which again covered the country. According to DW, quoting the words of the representative of the fire department of Stavroul Mallira, Cyprus has already sent 60 people and six fire trucks to extinguish forest fires.

However, according to him, France refused to help, as it is forced to fight fires on the Mediterranean coast and on the island of Corsica.

According to the publication, to date, 146 new fires have appeared in Greece. The largest fires rage north of Athens, on the Peloponnese Peninsula and on the island of Zakynthos. Local authorities are forced to evacuate thousands of people.

Recall, as reported URA-Inform, August 13, in southern Europe, again broke out forest fires. Hot and dry weather has led to new fires in Greece, Portugal and the French island of Corsica. Repeated fires in Greece began near the city of Kalamos, 44 kilometers north of Athens.
