Yle found out how their life developed in the future.

By early July this year, a total of 11,900 people had been granted asylum in Finland, 18,000 had been denied refugee status. The share of negative answers began to grow in June last year. Between June last year and early July this year, the Immigration Service issued 11,500 negative decisions.

After 1. 2016 Finland left 10,700 asylum seekers. Some of them left the country voluntarily, others were deported forcibly. Among those who left Finland are also people who, even before they arrived in Finland, applied for asylum in some other EU country. According to the Dublin agreement, they are returned to the EU country where they were first registered.

In addition, 5100 people "disappeared" from the reception centers. Nobody knows where they are. Some probably live in Finland without proper documents, others have independently left for other EU countries or for their homeland.

In Finland there are currently 15,730 registered asylum-seekers, 4,000 of them do not live in reception centers. The number of registered asylum-seekers is reduced by approximately 100 people per week, that is, in September there will be about 14,500 people.
