Disputes about the personality of Roman Shukhevych (as before - Banders, Mazepa, Khmelnitsky and Nalyvayko) all too often resemble the piling of stones on the scales of history. On one bowl, critics are thrown into the real service in the 201st battalion of the Shutsmanschaft and fictitious anti-Semitism, against another apologists - the fight against Nazi and Soviet totalitarianism. And everyone is firmly convinced that the outcome of the struggle for Shukhevych's memory somehow depends on the position of the arrow on the scales.

But no. It does not matter which cup will outweigh. For only Stannis Baratheon is right.

Everyone's life, especially in the era of formidable changes, is a daily choice, and it would be foolish to hope that he will always be right. Shukhevych, like any other person, did good deeds, and bad, behaved and was righteous, and sinful.

And, as in the case of any other person, neither the virtues of Shukhevych justify his vices, nor do vices obscure his virtues. Everything - both good and bad - co-exist in the same person at the same time. And an attempt to divide them, an attempt to present Shukhevych only as a descent of hell or just a knight in shining armor -. Even the creators of the lives of the saints did not descend to this (at least, most).

Well, choosing arguments is a secondary matter. If someone has already decided to write Shukhevych as an enemy, then the facts from his biography will select the appropriate ones - suitable for the image of a "Nazi criminal". If Shukhevych is a freedom fighter for another, then he will only see the best in him.

Well, the fact that in the capital of independent Ukraine there is a prospect in honor of one of the generals who gave their lives for its appearance is not surprising. The main thing is to understand that the real Shukhevych is as controversial as any other person, who is vested with power, and not try to mold out of him neither a demon nor an angel.

And finally. Damn those who meet in the discussion, not knowing the materiel!.

Auto-application Shukhevych did not serve in the SS. "Nachtigall" and "Roland" were the units of the Abwehr. "Nachtigall" as a compound did not participate in the Lviv pogrom of 1941, only individual soldiers. Service in the security police, as well as anti-guerrilla warfare (especially with Soviet saboteurs for non-citizen of the USSR), are not ipso facto crimes. Shukhevych was not awarded the Iron Cross, especially from the hands of Hitler; He had UPA awards: the Gold Cross of Combat Merit of 1st Class and the Gold Cross of Merit of 1st Class. Shukhevych was not the commander-in-chief of the UPA in the spring and summer of 1943 - at the time of the Volyn tragedy.

Shukhevych (like the UPA in general) was not convicted by the Nuremberg Tribunal. A lot of documents about the "atrocities" of Ukrainian nationalists - Soviet fakes. The Yad Vashem Museum, despite repeated promises, did not provide Shukhevych's compromising information.
