Death of Husar: Shevchuk began to cry, making a statement

The head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Svyatoslav Shevchuk, made an official statement about the death of the former head of the UGCC Cardinal Lubomyr Husar and informed the schedule of mourning events; Reading out the statement, he could not hold back his tears.

"The great shepherd of our church was worried in God, a great man, a great Christian, a great Ukrainian," he said.. Shevchuk added that the late cardinal was "the spiritual father of the Ukrainian people". "In his presence, we all felt protected, confident, and today in an instant we all orphaned".

Svyatoslav Shevchuk also promulgated the schedule of mourning events. So, today, on June 1, the funeral motorcade with the cardinal's body went to Lviv, the city where Lyubomir Guzar was born and where he "ascended the throne of Kyiv-Galician bishops".

Approximately at 19 o'clock the coffin with the cardinal's body will be delivered to the Lviv cathedral of St. George, where he will stay until Saturday, June 4. "On Saturday at 9 am we will serve the funeral Bishop's Divine Liturgy, then the funeral procession will begin along the streets of Lviv, which will end in the Archangel Michael's temple," Shevchuk said..

According to him, on Sunday, June 4, the coffin with the body of Lubomir Husar will arrive at the Kiev Patriarchal Cathedral. On this day, when the UGCC celebrates the feast of Pentecost, three liturgies will be served: at 7:30, at 9:00 and at 11:00. On the same day at 18:00 the rank of the bishops' funeral will be held, followed by the all-night prayers.

00, the mourning Episcopal Divine Liturgy will take place with the rank of burial. The cardinal will be buried in the same cathedral "as its builder, as his greatest treasure, as one who will become the great and indestructible cornerstone of this shrine forever," said Svyatoslav Shevchuk.
