President of the United States Donald Trump fired the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) James Komi, reported on May 9, the White House. Trump took this decision on the recommendation of US Attorney General Jeff Sessions and his deputy Rod Rosenstein.
The President pointed out that Komi "can not effectively manage" the department and that the FBI needs a new chapter in order to restore confidence.
Earlier, on March 20, the US FBI officially confirmed for the first time that it had launched an investigation into the possible impact of Russia on the presidential campaign in the US in 2016 and possible links between Donald Trump's campaign headquarters and the Kremlin. Komi on April 3 said at a meeting with senators that Russia continues to interfere in US domestic policy.
The head of the FBI also noted that the department continues to study the activities of Moscow during the campaign for the election of the US president.
At the same time, he did not disclose details, nor did he disclose who specifically investigated, citing the fact that such information would not be publicly publicized until the end of the investigation.
Trump nominated Session for the post of head of the Ministry of Justice immediately after the presidential elections in November 2016. The structure of the ministry includes, in particular, the prosecutor's office and a number of special services, including the FBI. Later, Jeff Sessions was suspected of hiding his contacts with Russia. This is reported by Deutsche Welle.
