July 5, 1946 French engineer Louis Rear (Louis Reard) introduced the world's first mini-swimsuit, which he named bikini. This day is considered the birthday of a bikini.

Louis Rear persuaded his famous dancer from the Casino de Paris Micheline Bernardini (Micheline Bernardini) to show the public a new swimsuit in two parts. The outfit was so frank that professional fashion models refused to go out on the podium, and the Catholic Church in Italy, Spain and Portugal banned women from wearing such clothes.
