On the territory of the National Reserve " Strategy of European Ukraine ”, which tells about the historical role of the hetman Ivan Mazepa in the formation of the European identity of our state. The event was visited by the photojournalist. UA Vasily Artyushenko.

In the seven halls of the 4th Corps of Lavra - former cells of the cathedral elders - unique monuments of the Mazepa era are presented: archival documents, artwork, valuables, weapons, household items and clothing of the Cossack elite. Particular attention is paid to books, old printed books and symbols of the political and spiritual choice of Ukraine at the turn of the XVII-XVIII centuries, the organizers report.

The exposition emphasizes: Ukraine was and remains part of the European civilizational space. Through the prism of Mazepa, the continuity of educational, legal, cultural and state traditions is shown, which today determine our struggle for freedom.

The organizers note that today the figure of Mazepa acquires a new sound. Like more than three centuries ago, Ukraine opposes Russia's attempts to destroy its identity and tear off from Europe. In this context, the struggle of the hetman for the independence of the Cossack state looks not only a historical example, but also a relevant symbol.

After many years of Moscow propaganda, we finally begin to understand the true weight of his choice - European, independent, culturally rich. The hetman was respected in the European capitals, and thanks to him, Ukraine was known as a civilized state. I hope this exhibition will become an impetus for the revision of our historical pantheon and replace the remnants of imperial myths, ”said Nikolai Tochitsky, Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications during the opening.
