The government proposed to postpone the increase in excise taxes on cigarettes

PRIME reports that the Russian government submitted to the lower house of parliament a proposal to postpone the increase in excise rates on tobacco products for six months. In the data of the information system of the State Duma it is noted, only excises on this type of products will not grow from January 1, 2018.

The Cabinet of Ministers proposes, from January 1 to June 30, 2018, to apply the current excise rate on tobacco products, which currently stands at 1,562 rubles per 1,000 cigarettes, plus 14.5% of the estimated value. From July 1, it will grow by 10% - to 1,718 rubles per 1 thousand cigarettes.

It is specified that excise rates for other tobacco products - cigars, cigarillos and so on - will be raised from the beginning of 2018.
