Former president of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine Sergei Bubka remained on the organization’s executive committee after Vadim Gutzeit was re-elected as president.

Zelensky deprived Bubka and Klochkova of state scholarships.

The NOC General Assembly took place on October 6.

Gutzeit, in a commentary to Suspilne Sport, explained this situation by the impossibility of expelling Bubka without consequences for the NOC, since he is a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

" According to the IOC Charter and Charter, Sergei Nazarovich Bubka, as a member of the IOC, automatically becomes a member of the executive committee of the National Olympic Committee.

I want to explain to people that this is the Charter - the constitution of the International Olympic Committee. If we expel him from the executive committee for any reason, we will be violating the IOC Charter. For this, the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine may be deprived of the flag and apply other sanctions,” Gutzeit said..

Bubka lost his post as president of the NOC of Ukraine and left the country after the start of a full-scale war. He spent 17 years in this position.

In 2023 edition of Bihus. info published an investigation reporting that the Russian company Mont Blanc, owned by Sergei Bubka and his brother Vasily, operates in the temporarily occupied territories.

At the 2024 Olympics, Bubka awarded a medal to an ex-Russian woman who visited occupied Crimea.

In November 2023, the SBU reported in absentia a suspicion of Vasily Bubka under articles of collaboration and assistance to a terrorist organization.

Let us recall that in February, skeleton athlete Vladislav Geraskevich from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada called for depriving Bubka of the title of Hero of Ukraine.
