President Botev Plovdiv Iliyan Filipov died from a flammable injury on the night of 30th spring. According to previous data, the attack took place close to the first year of the night on the territory of the private power of the businessman.
The 53rd-Rich functionary recovered from a fatal wound to the head and died on the spot. This was reported by the Bulgarian national radio BNR from a message to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country.
A few years before the tragedy, Filipov watched the match of the Bulgarian national team against Estonia, which ended in a goalless draw 0:0. The match of another round of the League of Nations took place at the Botev Stadium near Plovdiv.
After the crime, the Plovdiv police, together with the Head Directorate of the National Police, launched large-scale search operations. Roadblocks have been erected at the entrances and exits from the place, and law enforcement officers are checking transport means.
Plovdiv prosecutor Vanya Khristeva said that the investigation is currently looking at all possible versions and motives for the murder.
Filipov became the majority leader of Botev at the beginning of 2025. After adding a controlling stake in the shares of the club, they paid off debts to the club in the amount of approximately 3.5 million euros, which were lost as a result of the previous procedure.
The businessman also took part in the completed reconstruction of the club stadium. In addition to the football project, Filipov was the head of the transport company PIMK, which was responsible for the largest logistics companies in Bulgaria.
