The European Union has allocated an additional €30 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, increasing its total contribution to €279 million. New funding will help Ukrainian energy companies purchase necessary equipment and restore damaged networks, First Business reports..

The scale of destruction of the Ukrainian energy sector significantly exceeds the amount of international assistance. In summer, the energy system operates under additional load due to the heat, which increases electricity consumption, and some nuclear power units undergo scheduled repairs. The deficit will be covered by distributed generation, renewable energy and supplies from the EU, the maximum volume of which could be 2.1 GW.
