The Federation of Employers of the Fuel and Energy Complex of Ukraine called on the government to prevent a 30% increase in tariffs for freight rail transportation from August 2026. The Federation explains: for coal enterprises there is virtually no alternative to the railway. Therefore, increasing tariffs means one thing: delivery of coal to power plants will become more expensive, production costs will increase, and enterprises will have less money for fuel reserves, repairs and restoration of production infrastructure.

“The implementation of this initiative will create an additional financial burden on enterprises of the fuel and energy complex, will complicate their preparation for the autumn-winter period and will not solve the systemic problems of the functioning of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia,” said Federation Chairman Anatoly Tatarinov.

According to him, it will be coal producers who will suffer the most, in particular enterprises in front-line zones. They have been working in war conditions for four years now, providing fuel for thermal generation, forming coal reserves and at the same time restoring damaged infrastructure..

The Federation warns: if logistics become more expensive, part of the production may become economically unprofitable. This means the risk of a reduction in coal volumes precisely when thermal generation needs to overcome winter load peaks and maintain the balance of the energy system.

" As a result, thermal generation risks not receiving the required volumes of fuel during the period of maximum load on the energy system,” Tatarinov emphasized.
