Ukraine has several potential ways to get a temporary delay in the action of a cross -border carbon adjustment mechanism (CBAM), which the European Union will fully introduce since 2026. However, the embodiment of this idea will require clear steps from Ukraine.

This was stated by the scientific director of the project Green Deal Ukraine Georg Tsahmann.

According to him, there are three options for obtaining a certain delay.

The first is provided for in Article 2. 8 of the CBAM regulations. She " This is possible if the country has a very clear path, a clear road map for carbon pricing and combining markets "

" If Ukraine introduces the price of carbon for its generation of electricity and concludes an agreement on combining markets with the EU, if it can show a clear road card, it can receive a delay that will greatly simplify the trade between the EU and Ukraine, otherwise there will be a mess in the electric power sector, ”the expert explained.
