The decision taken by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to freeze pensions, the minimum wage and the cost of living for 3 years may be revised after the first half of 2025. First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Social Policy and Protection of Veterans' Rights, MP from the Batkivshchyna faction, Mikhail Tsymbalyuk, said this in an interview with Ukrainian News..

The deputy called the government's decision to freeze social standards unfair and expressed confidence that it will be revised this year. People's deputies are discussing with the ministries an increase in the cost of living, on the basis of which more than a hundred payments are calculated, and the minimum wage.

“I think that after the first half of the year the Cabinet of Ministers will come up with such an initiative. We are talking about this with various ministries. Why? Because then there will be economic growth,” said Mikhail Tsymbalyuk.

He noted that increasing pensions and salaries will bring additional funding to the budget through taxes, which will increase funding for the military-industrial complex. According to the parliamentarian, the internal financial situation allows such a decision to be made. In addition, this year Ukraine will receive more than 40 billion euros in support from partners, which will raise standards. In particular, increasing the cost of living will allow raising the minimum pension, which currently stands at UAH 2,360, and almost 2 million Ukrainian pensioners receive up to UAH 3,000.

“We are moving in this process and I think that the government will agree to this, because raising pensions and the minimum wage will stimulate the economy. Pensioners, receiving not meager funds, go to stores, pay utility bills and thus stimulate economic development, and do not hide money “under the mattress,” Tsymbalyuk explained.

If the government reconsiders the freeze on the cost of living and the minimum wage, other payments dependent on them will also increase, in particular assistance for the birth of a child.

Let us remind you that on January 21, the Pension Fund of Ukraine explained for what violations Ukrainians could be deprived of their pensions and how to restore it.

Also on January 21, Focus wrote with reference to the “OLX Work” digest that wages in Ukraine are falling sharply in a number of regions.
