Demand for currency in Ukraine fell, especially for non-cash - NBU data

Over the past month (April), the population of Ukraine sold cash and non-cash currency to commercial banks in the amount of 1,335.4 million dollars (in equivalent), while buying - for 1,559.6 million dollars. Therefore, according to the NBU, the net purchase of foreign currency amounted to $224.2 million..

Taking into account the data of the regulator, in April, the net purchase of foreign currency decreased by $200.1 million over the month.. For comparison, in March this figure was at the level of $424.3 million..

In total, since the beginning of 2023, Ukrainians have sold $5,064.1 million and bought for $6,781.4 million. Net purchase of foreign currency amounted to $1,717.3 million.



There is another trend - net demand for non-cash currency has decreased significantly - to $19.4 million (from $147.1 million in March). Ukrainians buy this currency in banks at a rate close to the official one (UAH 36.6 plus commission). Since the exchange rate fell to UAH 38 on the cash market in April, these transactions almost lost their meaning..
