Carrot and onion prices hit record highs in 2022. The reason for this situation was a full-scale military invasion of the Russian Federation, which destroyed production in the south of Ukraine and all logistics..

Taras Vysotsky, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, said on the air of the United News marathon that this spring farmers plan to increase the sowing of spring crops, as well as onions, carrots and buckwheat. Therefore, there will be no shortage of grain crops in the domestic market of Ukraine, and this will contribute to the availability of the domestic product for the Ukrainian consumer. This was reported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

According to the Deputy Minister, farmers from the Odessa region, Central and Western Ukraine are resuming the cultivation of vegetables, primarily borscht - onions and carrots.

“This year the situation with onions and carrots on the market will be stable compared to last year.. The products will be more accessible to the Ukrainian consumer,” Taras Vysotsky emphasized..

According to him, it is planned to sow more non-export-oriented crops: buckwheat, oats and millet..

“Agrarians have already significantly increased the volume of buckwheat sowing in 2022. Therefore, today its price is 50% less than in the past.. Almost the same area under crops is expected this year. That is, more buckwheat will be produced than needed for domestic consumption.. The need for imports will decrease, and there will be no reason to increase the price.

Even a possible reduction in prices, but this will become clear after the fixation of sown areas in June,” the First Deputy Minister emphasized..

According to his forecasts, in difficult military conditions, the volume of grain production will exceed the needs of Ukrainians by at least two and a half times.. There will be enough wheat for the production of bakery products, and corn and barley for feed.

On the eve of the Easter holidays, Ukrainians should expect a traditional rise in prices, in particular meat and eggs. Recall which products will increase in price by 5-7%.
