Due to the strike of carriers from the Polish side at the Dorogusk-Yagodyn checkpoint, the queue for entry into Ukraine stretched for 58 kilometers, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Mustafa Nayem said..
According to him, there are 2,437 trucks in line to cross the border in the direction of Ukraine, and given that almost 40% of all exports at the Polish border leave through the Yagodin checkpoint, this leads to huge losses, which, according to customs, amount to UAH 60 million per.
Thus, according to the data of the Border Guard Service of the Republic of Poland, the waiting time for registration for trucks at the Dorogusk checkpoint as of 11:45 am on September 8 is at least 38 hours..
“Now Polish protesters are threatening to arrange similar road closures at the Grebennoe-Rava Russkaya and Medica-Shegini checkpoints,” the Deputy Minister noted and added that a compromise solution is now being sought with the Polish government and carriers.
To solve the problem, after consultations with Polish colleagues, the Ukrainian side proposed to increase the number of employees of the phytosanitary and veterinary inspection of the Republic of Poland and, possibly, even cancel the control of trucks transporting rapeseed for biodiesel production and transiting through Poland in the direction of export from Ukraine if they are pre-sealed.
“For their part, all Ukrainian services involved in this are ready to start sorting vehicles at the border, depending on the cargo.. This will equalize the load on Polish inspectors of different services working at the border.. In fact, Ukraine is ready to produce cars for the Polish side, which the inspectors of the neighboring country are ready to issue without delay, without waiting. Thus, it will be possible to reduce traffic jams inside the neighboring checkpoint,” Nayem added..
Also, Ukraine is ready to prepare and open the Grushev-Budomez, Ugrinov-Dolgobychev and Smolnitsa-Krostsenko checkpoints for an extraordinary departure of empty trucks from Ukraine to Poland as soon as possible, but this requires consent from Polish colleagues.
“It will be possible to increase the throughput of the checkpoints if the Polish side stops counting empty trucks in the number of cars registered per shift.
In fact, they pass many times faster than loaded ones and without registration. The optimal solution would be to increase the number of trucks crossing the border from 300 to 500 per day,” the Deputy Minister said..
This morning, a corresponding letter was sent to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Republic of Poland, the Ministry of Infrastructure of the Republic of Poland, the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Poland and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Poland.
