Georgian wine got into the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest in history. Previously, scientists have found evidence that more than 8,000 years ago wine was made on the territory of this country. This is stated in a message published on the official website of the publication, writes DW.

The discovery was made known to scientists during archaeological excavations in two ancient Georgian settlements, 50 kilometers from Tbilisi.

There were found ancient clay vessels, the chemical analysis of which showed that they stored wine. Settlements date from about 6000-5800 BC.

Earlier it was believed that the winemaking came from Iran in 5400-5000 BC. The discovery was made by Professor Patrick McGovern of the University of Pennsylvania, along with colleagues from France, Italy, Israel, Canada and Georgia.
