According to the monitoring organization "Gas Infrastructure of Europe" (GIE), in May the injection of gas into European storage facilities increased to 21 million cubic meters per day. This is one and a half to two times higher than last year. According to EADaily, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands are the most active after the cold winter. Over the past heating season, EU countries have consumed the maximum amount of gas. The only country that is currently increasing gas supplies to Europe is Russia.
The main reason for the increased demand for fuel from Gazprom is an attractive price. In April, one thousand cubic meters of Russian on the border with Germany cost $ 183. The price of American LNG, which the EU intends to replace the supply of Gazprom, in February was $ 245 per thousand cubic meters.
Significantly increased gas supplies from Russia and Poland, repeatedly declaring a reduction in Gazprom's supplies and blocking Russian gas projects in Europe. In April, Poland entered into a contract with the only American LNG exporter, Cheniere. According to the National Energy Security Fund (FNEB), the break-even price for US LNG in Poland is $ 266, while Russian gas costs Poles at $ 195-213. Such a policy of the Polish authorities will result in additional costs for Polish consumers, said Alexei Grivach, deputy director of the FNEB.
Experts estimate, as very modest, possible volumes of LNG supplies to Poland. On average, one LNG tanker can deliver 100-150 million cubic meters of fuel at a time - the same amount is supplied to Russia from Russia within 5-7 days.
Poland has long imposed a restriction on the supply of foreign fuel - they should not exceed 59% of a single source. At the same time, the share of Russian gas supplies was 75%. Last year, the Polish company PGNiG earned at a low price of Russian gas, increasing its profits by 50 percent. Given such a price environment, politicians' statements that the contract with Russian "Gazprom" will not be extended after 2021 looks unconvincing. In words, Warsaw is looking for new sources of supply, but in fact it uses all the advantages of Russian "blue fuel".
