In the rescue operations involved about 1,250 people who use drones, service dogs and heavy construction equipment.
Some parts of the terrain were covered with a layer of mud up to a thickness of 4.6 meters. The search for survivors in these conditions is difficult. One of the most famous and beautiful roads in California - the number 101 highway - in the district of Santa Barbara is covered with a layer of mud two meters thick.
