EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas did not express optimism about US special envoy Steve Witkoff's speculations about a possible meeting between Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in the coming weeks.. She noted that representatives of the Russian side are not serious negotiators and are not ready to discuss political issues, the Ukrinform correspondent reports..

" But such a path will not ensure long-term peace.. Therefore, I doubt that it will be possible to see results in the coming weeks or months,” Kallas said.

She noted that EU foreign ministers today plan to discuss topics that are important to raise with Russia during peace negotiations. At the same time, she explained that who exactly is conducting the conversations is not so important as the content of what they want to discuss with the Russian side.

Kallas said whoever negotiates with Russia should ask what the country is willing to agree to.

" If you ask for little, you will get nothing. And if you don’t ask for anything at all, you’ll have to pay more,” said the high representative.

Witkoff reported that he expects positive news in the peace process between Ukraine and Russia in the near future. He noted that supposedly their proposals, together with Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, will help bring the parties’ positions closer over the next three weeks. The special envoy added that this could lead to a summit between Zelensky and Putin. According to Witkoff, a trilateral meeting with the participation of US President Donald Trump is possible in the end.
