Member of the US House of Representatives from Kentucky, Republican Thomas Massey introduced a bill to withdraw the United States from NATO. He announced this on the social network X on Wednesday, December 10.

In his opinion, "

" Today I introduced legislation HR6508 to end our membership in NATO,"

In the bill, he noted that NATO was created to counter the Soviet Union, which collapsed more than 30 years ago: "

This bill obliges the US President to officially notify the North Atlantic bloc of withdrawal no later than 30 days after the law enters into force. The document also states that the bloc's original Cold War goal no longer serves America's national interests..

The bill also ensures that European NATO members have sufficient economic and military capabilities to provide for their own defense, and prevents the use of American taxpayer funds to finance the overall budgets of the Alliance..

Earlier, the media reported that the United States plans to stop certain security assistance to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia - NATO member countries that border Russia.

And Pentagon representative David Baker said that Europe should reduce its dependence on the United States, saying that Washington will switch its attention to other – internal – priorities.
