For many years, Russia remains the main diplomatic ally of Iran in the nuclear issue. However, despite the public support of Tehran’s right to enrich Uranus, in private conversations, Putin took a slightly different position after a recent 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran.

According to three European and one Israeli official, aware of the situation, Moscow convinced the Iranian side to consider the option of “zero enrichment”. According to sources, Russian representatives also informed the Israeli leadership about Putin's position on this issue. “We know exactly what Putin said to the Iranians,” said a high -ranking Israeli official.

The President of Russia announced the same point of view last week in telephone conversations with Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Earlier, the blows of Israel and the United States caused serious damage to Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, although it was not possible to completely destroy the reserves of highly enriched uranium. At the same time, it remains unclear whether Iran has been preserved workers centrifuges.

Meanwhile, Trump made it clear that he was interested in concluding a new nuclear agreement with Tehran. If negotiations begin in the coming weeks, one of Washington’s key requirements will be a complete refusal of Iran to enrich uranium on its territory, sources say.

Iran insists that the right to enrichment must be reserved under any agreement. Nevertheless, according to sources, in recent weeks, Putin and other representatives of the Russian leadership have repeatedly expressed support for the idea of “zero enrichment”.

“Putin would support such a deal. He called on the Iranians to move in this direction to create more favorable conditions for negotiations with the United States. However, Tehran rejected this option, ”said a European official, directly familiar with the situation.

Putin's position is of particular interest, taking into account the large-scale military assistance, which Iran provided Russia in the war against Ukraine-in particular, the supply of hundreds of shock drones and missiles " .

Kremlin and the White House refused to comment. The constant representative office of Iran at the UN also did not give an answer.

According to sources, Russia clearly made it clear both publicly and in private conversations that, if the agreement was reached, it was ready to take out all the highly enriched uranium from Iran. In exchange, Moscow will supply Iran Uranus with an enrichment level of up to 3.67% for the needs of the nuclear energy, as well as small volumes of 20% uranium for the Tehran Research reactor and the production of isotopes.

The White House Special Representative Steve Witkoff discussed with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Abbas Aragchi the possibility of resuming negotiations on a nuclear program. They planned to hold a meeting in Oslo, but, according to sources, both sides - both Iranian and American - lost interest in this idea and are now looking for another place for negotiations.

Recall that Iranian President Masud Kiteshkin believes that Tehran can solve his differences with the United States through dialogue, but trust will be in question after the states of the States and Israel on Iranian nuclear objects. The Iranian president also called on US President Donald Trump not to join the war of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with Iran.
