The government of Ireland approved legislative changes that will send special forces to Kyiv, write a number of Irish media. In the capital of Ukraine, they would protect Irish officials.

According to Irish Independent, according to the proposals, such changes mean that only the cabinet and the Ireland parliament will be able to affirm the deployment of troops. These proposals will still be submitted to the parliament in general.

The bill on the introduction of amendments will be aimed at preliminary legislative consideration, as soon as the special committee Doyle Eren (the lower house of the parliament is formed - Ed.. ) on security and defense. Currently, this possibility is blocked as a result of the ongoing dispute Doyle Eren regarding the rights to performance.

The Irish Times noted that the personnel of the wing of the army rangers (ARW), the special forces of the defense forces should arrive in Ukraine to protect Irish officials in 2022. This was supposed to happen after Ireland opened its embassy in Ukraine seven months after a full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation.

However, then the government received a legal advice that there is no specific legislative provision on the deployment of Irish troops to fulfill the obligations to protect. And this is despite the fact that earlier Irish soldiers went to several similar missions.

Therefore, the Irish delegation has become one of the few countries of the European Union without an official group of personal protection. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ireland was forced to hire a private security company to protect the ambassador of Teresa Hili and its officials. Then ARW employees also could not accompany officials during visits to Kyiv.

According to the bill approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, the Armed Forces will now be able to unfold abroad to perform security functions, which opens up to the ARW to protect the embassy in Kyiv and other dangerous objects around the world.

Personal protection is one of the main skills of the Air Force, which is considered the most prepared unit in the Armed Forces.

The Ministry of Defense of Ireland noted that the changes are “especially important in view of the support of Irish citizens, at the same time contributing to the protection of our embassies and the performance of personal protection duties abroad”.

The main attention of the bill is focused on the reform of the triple ban and the cancellation of the need to approve the UN before sending more than 12 peacekeepers abroad.

New legislation will also increase the number of military personnel who can be sent abroad without the approval of parliament, from 12 to 50 people. This will ensure an immediate response to emergency situations, such as the requirement of the evacuation of the civilian population.

Members of opposition parties sharply criticized the dismantling of a triple ban and said that this is part of the government’s efforts aimed at undermining the military neutrality of Ireland.

Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland Simon Harris said that as part of the triple blocking “countries such as Russia, have the right to impose a veto on the participation of Ireland in missions due to their role of regular members of the UN Security Council”.

.

Recall that a few days ago the Ireland government decided to allocate a new assistance package in the amount of 100 million euros. Of this money, 80 million euros will be spent on joint purchases with partners from the EU, in particular, Lithuania and Denmark. Another 20 million euros will be aimed at strengthening Ukrainian capabilities in cleansing, cybersecurity, IT sphere and military communications.
