The self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, who is once again running for the so-called presidential elections, after voting at a polling station in Minsk on Sunday, January 26, said that he expects a resolution to the war in Ukraine this year.

“This year, some kind of denouement will be. I'm not saying that the war will end. We will probably be in conflict for a long time. We are Slavs, if we begin to conflict, this is for a long time, ”Lukashenko said after the vote.

He noted that he sees a compromise in Putin’s June ultimatum, according to which Ukraine must give Russia the Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, as well as Crimea. At the same time, he expressed doubt that each side would be satisfied with this particular option..

“Volodya Zelensky and Vladimir Putin knows better. They are directly immersed in it there. But the compromise will have to be found. With the expectation that the time will come, peoples will decide where to live and what currency to use. Peoples! Just do not need to interfere with them. But again, this is being decided at the negotiating table, ”added Lukashenko.

At the same time, he emphasized that the Russians will never return Crimea to Ukraine - “they will not leave where they are”.

As for Trump’s ultimatum, then, according to Lukashenko, “he is not a fool” and understands that “Putin will not listen to him”.

“But I have 50/50. I think the Americans will do so that we and Russia are not very good, ”said Putin's ally.

That is why, according to him, 2025 will be difficult for both Russia and Belarus, since the United States “will begin to strangle Russia and China”.

Early voting in the election of the President of Belarus continued from January 21 to 25. According to the official Belarusian Central Election Commission, 41.81% of citizens of Belarus decided to vote ahead of schedule.

At the same time, on January 22, the European Parliament called not to recognize the results of the upcoming presidential elections in Belarus as fictitious and to introduce new sanctions against the authorities of the republic. In response, Lukashenko stated that he was “purple”, recognize the EU Electoral elections in Belarus or not.

Recall that the official election results in 2020, according to which Lukashenko received 80% of the vote, caused a wave of protests in the country that lasted several months and accompanied by detentions and the use of force on the part of law enforcement.
