New US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the administration of President Donald Trump is interested in long-term peace in Ukraine, in which a new war would not start again in a few years. However, how the Americans will achieve this remains questionable, since the views of the Russian Federation and the United States on the world are very different.

This opinion was expressed by Ukrainian journalist Vitaly Portnikov. He noted that Rubio's view of the end of the war as a long process, and not as an episode, coincides with the theses expressed by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin at a meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council.

“Putin also said then that he was not interested in a truce, during which Ukraine could supposedly rearm and prepare for a new war, but was interested in long-term peace,” Portnikov said.

However, the views on this long-term peace between Putin and the Trump administration are radically different.

So, for Trump it is important that the war not only ends, but that Ukraine remains on the political map of the world, at least within those borders that it can protect from the Russian Federation. For Putin, it is important that Ukraine disappears, and Russia becomes the “political hegemon of Europe” and controls not only the countries that were part of the USSR, but also those that were in the Soviet occupation zone.

According to Portnikov, Trump does not have any new tools to put pressure on the dictator in order to force him to accept US conditions, at least regarding a ceasefire..

" But if we go through strengthening sanctions, supporting Ukraine and reconsidering the issue of its Euro-Atlantic integration, then we can say that during his tenure Trump can create conditions for success,” he said.

Recall: Rubio said that the conflict initiated by Russia caused significant damage to Ukraine, Russia itself and the stability of Europe. And the only way to solve this problem is pragmatism and seriousness in diplomacy.

According to Rubio, ending the Russian-Ukrainian war is one of the priorities of the administration of the new US President Donald Trump.. The key task facing the White House is to find a solution that would ensure that the war does not break out again in a few years..

Rubio has already taken the oath of office and officially assumed office, immediately declaring that the main mission of the State Department will be to strengthen the security, strength and prosperity of the United States. We told you what the new Secretary of State said about Ukraine.
