Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino reacted sharply to new US President Donald Trump's plans to return control of the Panama Canal to America. Mulino said that no state can interfere with the management of the canal, which is and will continue to belong to Panama.

The President of Panama published his response to Trump on the social network X. He strongly condemned the statement of the US President.

" “I repeat what I said in my address to the nation on December 22: the canal belongs and will belong to Panama, and its management will remain under Panamanian control for maintaining permanent neutrality,” said Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino.

He also rejected the US president's claim that China was exploiting the canal..

" There is not a single country in the world that would interfere with the work of the channel,” Mulino emphasized.

He also added that Panama since 1999. manages the channel responsibly and expands it in the interests of the whole world and trade.

According to Jose Mulino, Panama will use international law as a way to regulate relations between countries, including the United States.

“Dialogue is always the way to clarify the above-mentioned points without compromising our rights, full sovereignty and ownership of our channel,” added Mulino.

Let us recall that earlier Donald Trump did not rule out that he could use economic and military methods to restore US control over the Panama Canal and Greenland. And during his inaugural speech on January 20, he once again repeated his attacks on the Panama Canal.
