Large European Council on Foreign Relations poll shows European concerns about Trump are not widespread.

After talking to 28,000 people in 24 countries, we found that the vast majority of people around the world believe that Trump is actually good for the United States, the world and the global world, says Mark Leonard, director of the European Council on Foreign Relations.

“According to our data, in India, Saudi Arabia, Russia, China and South Africa, three out of five people believe Trump’s promise to end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours. Every second person believes that he will achieve peace in the Middle East. And the prevailing consensus is that he will indeed improve Washington's relations with Beijing—strikingly enough, this view is held by just under half of the Chinese survey respondents,"

At the same time, while many may welcome Trump's return to office, they don't necessarily believe he will make America great again.

" Among large, middle-sized states such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Indonesia and South Africa, nearly seven in 10 people believe this,” adds Leonard.

Europe is terrified of the rhetoric associated with " But this is exactly what people, especially those living in middle-sized countries around the world, are looking forward to.

They no longer want the US to be the moral arbiter or the world's policeman.. They are much more comfortable dealing with them as the most powerful country in a more transactional world.

The European Council on Foreign Relations poll also shows that Europe is not keen to lead the resistance to Trump or continue to lead other countries or lecture them on how to run their affairs..

The vast majority around the world views the EU as a superpower that can stand alongside China and America and pursue its interests. The real question is whether he can agree on what those interests are.

“Only by overcoming its differences will Europe be able to protect itself from divide and rule tactics, either from Beijing, or from Moscow, or from Washington,” Leonard concluded.

We previously noted that Ukraine’s European allies remain cautiously optimistic that the next US President, Donald Trump, who will take office on January 20, will not force Kyiv into premature negotiations with Russia. They said they came to this conclusion after a series of private conversations with members of the Trump team, during which transatlantic partners supported continued support for Ukraine.
