US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan signed a charter on strategic cooperation between Washington and Yerevan. Radio Liberty reported this yesterday.
“We are creating a strategic partnership commission to expand cooperation in the areas of economics, security and defense, democracy, inclusion and people-to-people relations,” Blinken said.
He added that the United States will work with Armenia to strengthen efforts to protect sovereignty and sovereign territory.
According to him, a special customs and border team from the United States will arrive in Armenia in the coming weeks to conduct joint border security operations.
In turn, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan thanked Washington for its efforts supporting the integrity of the sovereign territory and the independence of the state. Yerevan remains committed to the peace agenda and works closely with the United States, the minister noted.
Mirzoyan also stated that official Yerevan is ready to work with the new US administration.
Earlier it became known that Armenia cooperates with the United States in all areas in the field of defense, in particular military and military-technical. This was stated by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia Edward Asryan.
It was also reported that Armenia is discussing with the United States the construction of a new nuclear power plant, which should replace the only Armenian nuclear power plant in Metsamor, built in the late 1970s.
