NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg encourages the Alliance to create a special fund for Ukraine worth $100 billion over five years. This was transferred as part of a package of proposals that leaders at the NATO summit in Washington may sign, planned for June.
According to information from Bloomberg, it was reported that representatives of the allies are discussing Stoltenberg’s proposal, as well as ways of dividing these influences, and the possibility of securing bilateral assistance to Ukraine.
It is understood that the proposal of the NATO Secretary General, which will be considered by the 32 member countries of the Alliance, can encourage changes until the time of agreement between the allies.
According to Bloomberg, with the support of Stoltenberg’s idea, NATO will change its role in Ukraine, which may indicate a paradigm shift for the military Alliance, which was previously unique in actively contributing to the conflict with Russia.
Waning support for the Atlantic Alliance could be an important signal of support for Ukraine in the long term, especially in connection with the aggressive actions of Russian leader Volodymyr Putin.
In addition, NATO can take over the obligations of the Contact Group for the Defense of Ukraine, which the United States is detached from.. This group coordinates the implementation of the system from nearly 50 countries for Ukraine.
