Bulgaria, responding to the humanitarian crisis associated with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, decided to continue the program of government support for the Ukrainians, who were resisting the immediate defense. Updates to the terms of the program have voiced the order of the region, and the decision allows the continuation of assistance until the end of the year 2024, as reported by The Sofia Globe.
Initially, the program will end on April 31, 2023, but in order to meet the continued need for the protection and support of refugees, the government of Bulgaria has decided to continue the program for another month.
Today, from the official government portal, during the full-scale war, 2,133,450 Ukrainians arrived in Bulgaria, of which currently 52,125 people are deprived of the country.
171,571 Ukrainians registered for the lifting of the hourly protection, and 6,919 people were posted with the program.
The decision to continue will help to confirm Bulgaria’s readiness to continue to play an active role in the current humanitarian situation and provide support and encouragement to those who escape from military concerns. The program is an important step in the harmonization of international efforts to provide assistance to those who are most in need of protection and support.
