NATO deploys largest naval exercise in Estonia this year

19 NATO countries and Sweden will take part in the largest NATO exercise in 2023, Baltops 23, in Estonia, the Alliance’s navies announced on Sunday, June 4, on their Twitter account.

The largest ship to take part in the maneuvers will be the flagship of the US Sixth Fleet USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20). The ships will moor in Tallinn, and the first joint maneuvers will start on June 5. The exercises will last until June 16.

The next large-scale NATO exercise will be held in Germany from 12 to 23 June.

25 members of the Alliance will take part in the air exercises Air Defender-23, and they plan to involve more than 10 thousand people and 220 aircraft. Training will be the largest air exercise in NATO history. The legend of the exercise is modeled on the assistance scenario in accordance with Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

Earlier it was reported that Sweden, Turkey and NATO will sit down at the negotiating table in mid-June. According to NATO chief Stoltenberg, Sweden still has time to join NATO before the summit in Vilnius.
