Russia continues to buy American-made aircraft parts, despite the sanctions, in particular, parts of Boeing, Airbus and other aircraft worth millions of dollars were sent to Russia last year. This is stated in the article The New York Times.

The publication reports that last Thursday, May 11, Oleg Patsulya, a Russian living in Miami, was arrested in the United States on charges of violating export controls and international money laundering.. The man, together with an accomplice, organized a scheme, thanks to which a number of sanctioned Russian airlines, including Aeroflot, Rossiya, Pobeda, Ural, UTair and S7 Airlines, received thousands of batches of parts for Boeing, Airbus and other aircraft.

According to the investigation, the suspects, through a network of companies based in the US state of Florida, as well as in Turkey and Russia, supplied spare parts, including expensive braking systems for a Boeing-737 aircraft, to at least three Russian airlines..

Investigators are convinced that men began to develop a scheme for the supply of spare parts from the United States bypassing export restrictions in May 2022.. And already in August, Patsulya sent an email to one of the airlines with a proposal to help circumvent the sanctions, after which deliveries began.

NYT received customs documents at its disposal, indicating more than five thousand shipments of various aircraft parts - from simple propellers to engines imported to Russia. In just eight months of 2022, US-made aircraft parts worth $14.4 million were sent to Russia.

Recall that after the start of a full-scale invasion of the Russian army in Ukraine, the United States and other Western allies imposed sanctions against Russia, which concerned, among other things, the supply of aviation components to the country. Russian air carriers fell under them, including Aeroflot and its subsidiary Russia. In this regard, back in March last year, Russia lost 78 of its 1,367 civilian aircraft - they were arrested abroad.. To temporarily solve the problem, Russia stole about 500 aircraft from lessors.
